Please click on pictures to enlarge them
The totem poles were commisioned in the spring of 1999 by the Oddette Foundation and presented to the City of Windsor in Sept 1999 to be placed in the Sculpture Park along the Waterfront in Windsor. They are situated along a nature path so that the many people that travel this route every day will enjoy their beauty. They are called NEISH DO DEM which means in Ojibwa---two identifications ( two storeys) .
The totem poles are carved from northern Ontario white pine. They are 50 feet long 3 feet in diameter made from one tree each and weigh approx 4300 pounds. They took 5 months to finish. The two main carvers were Wilmer Nadjiwon from Cape Croker and Harold Rice from Vancouver Island with the help of many apprentices. They are thought to be the tallest poles where the wood is from Ont , and carved in Ont .
